Jodie was warded on 27 December 1999 to Singapore General Hospital for a checkup on her blood sample. Her family doctor sent her down to the hospital after a checkup on the same day. That night, the doctors informed her that she had acute leukemia. The next day, the doctors classified this form of leukemia as an M1 type, and she underwent chemotherapy soon after. As the veins in her arms were too small, a catheter had to be inserted into a vein near the lungs for the chemotherapy drugs to enter her system.
However, after some further chromosome tests which took about 2 days, the doctors found out that this was M3 type of leukemia, this is the BEST prognosis we can hope for, the chances of the leukemia cells going into remission is higher than the M1 type. This also means that the catheter could be taken out and chemotherapy drugs to be administered orally. But later, the doctors told us that the catheter has to remain for other drugs and blood to be transfused if needed.
Jodie went home to rest on 21 Jan, she has finished 2 round of chemotherapy in the meantime. After the 1st round, the doctors checked the bone marrow and there they found no trace of the leukemia cells. She was warded about 2 weeks after the 2nd round of chemotherapy on 26 Feb due to a fever that went beyond 38 degree celcius.
She is currently at home and resting from the 3rd round of chemotherapy, this is the last round.
